Mae llwyfan un o gemau mwyaf y tymor hyd yma wedi’i osod wrth i CPD Porthmadog deithio i wynebu Cei Connah yng Nghwpan Cymru – a gêm nos wener o dan y goleuadau yn Stadiwm Essity, Y Fflint. Perffaith.
Dyma’r union fath o achlysur y mae pob chwaraewr, rheolwr a chefnogwr yn breuddwydio amdano. Gêm gwpan fawr, yn erbyn un o dimau sefydledig y Cymru Premier, gyda’r cyfan i’w ennill a dim i’w golli.
Mae Porthmadog yn cyrraedd y gêm mewn hwyliau da ar ôl dechrau addawol iawn i fywyd yn y Novira Cymru North. Yn dilyn dyrchafiad o Haen 3 ar ddiwedd ymgyrch lwyddiannus y llynedd, mae tîm Chris Jones wedi profi’n gyflym eu bod yn perthyn ar y lefel uwch. Mae cyfres o berfformiadau cryf wedi meithrin hyder o fewn y garfan, ac mae’r ysbryd a’r undod sydd wedi nodweddu’r clwb dros y tymhorau diwethaf yn dal i fod yn amlwg.
Ond bydd y prawf mwyaf hyd yma yn eu disgwyl yn Stadiwm Essity
Mae Cei Connah wedi hen sefydlu eu hunain ymhlith elit pêl-droed Cymru. Fel un o brif glybiau’r Cymru Premier dros y degawd diwethaf, mae Cei Connah wedi adeiladu enw da am fod yn gystadleuwyr ffyrnig mewn unrhyw gystadleuaeth. Maent hefyd wedi mwynhau dechrau cryf arall i’r tymor hwn ac yn haeddu’u lle ymhlith ffefrynnau’r gystadleuaeth.
Fodd bynnag, mae Cwpan Cymru wedi gweld ei siâr o ganlyniadau mawr dros y blynyddoedd, ac mae Porthmadog yn teithio gan gredu y gallent ychwanegu eu henw at restr hir o straeon cwpan cofiadwy.
Mae hanes hefyd yn ychwanegu at y cyffro. Y tro diwethaf i’r ddau glwb gyfarfod yng Nghwpan Cymru oedd yn 2018, pan aeth Porthmadog ar y blaen cyn i Gei Connah droi’r gêm ar ei phen a hawlio buddugoliaeth o 3-1. Mae’r clybiau hefyd wedi wynebu eu gilydd sawl gwaith yn yr hen Uwch Gynghrair Cymru, ond mae dros bymtheg mlynedd wedi mynd heibio ers eu gêm gynghrair diwethaf.
Bydd Cei Connah yn dechrau fel ffefrynnau ar bapur, ond ni fydd hynny’n poeni Porthmadog. Dyma’r math o achlysur sy’n rhoi cyfle i arwyr newydd ddod i’r amlwg ac i dimau ysgrifennu eu henwau yn hanes y clwb.
Mae’r clwb yn annog y cefnogwyr i wneud y daith a chael eu gweld a’u clywed y tu ôl i’r tîm. Mae eich cefnogaeth wedi chwarae rhan allweddol mewn nifer o adegau mwyaf cofiadwy’r clwb dros y blynyddoedd, a bydd eich hangen eto’r penwythnos hwn. Gyda lle yn y rownd nesaf yn y fantol a chyfle i greu pennod arall yn hanes balch CPD Porthmadog, beth bynnag fydd yn digwydd, mae’r llwyfan wedi’i osod ar gyfer achlysur arbennig.
The stage is set for one of Porthmadog’s biggest matches of the season so far as they travel to face Connah’s Quay Nomads in the FAW Welsh Cup – a Friday night game under the lights in the Essity Stadium, Flint. Perfect.
This is exactly the type of occasion that players, managers, and supporters dream about. A major cup tie, against one of the most established clubs in Welsh football, with the opportunity to test themselves against Cymru Premier opposition and create another memorable chapter in the club’s history.
Porthmadog head into the contest in confident mood following an impressive start to life in the Novira Cymru North. After securing promotion from Tier 3 at the end of last season, Chris Jones’ side have adapted superbly to the demands of their new division. A series of strong performances has demonstrated that the team belongs at this level, while the spirit, determination and togetherness within the squad continue to drive the team forward.
This challenge, however, represents their toughest test yet.
However, the Welsh Cup has seen its share of major upsets over the years, and Porthmadog travel believing they can add their name to a long list of memorable cup stories.
Connah’s Quay have long been regarded as one of the leading forces in domestic Welsh football. Regular contenders at the top end of the Cymru Premier, the Nomads have built a reputation for consistency, quality, and success. They have once again enjoyed a strong start to the campaign and will begin the tie as favourites.
Yet cup football has never been decided on reputation alone.
History adds an extra layer of intrigue to this encounter. The last time the two clubs met in the Welsh Cup was in 2018, when Porthmadog took an early lead before Connah’s Quay fought back to claim a 3-1 victory. The clubs also shared many battles in the old Welsh Premier League, although it has now been more than fifteen years since they last met in league competition.
While Connah’s Quay may be favourites on paper, the magic of the Welsh Cup has produced countless surprises over the years. Porthmadog will travel north-east believing they can cause an upset and book their place in the next round.
The club is encouraging supporters to make the journey and get behind the team. The backing of the Traeth faithful has been at the heart of so many memorable occasions over the years, and it will be needed again this weekend. With a place in the next round at stake and the chance to create another unforgettable cup story, the stage is perfectly set for a special afternoon.
