On a warm summer’s evening, a packed Traeth crowd (including members of the Criccieth Pathfinders Camp who entertained with their songs throughout!) were treated to another largely comfortable home victory to start this 2025/26 season.

The opening 10 mins however was a very cagey affair, with both teams struggling to gain a foothold on the game & as a result, the ball was mostly to be seen in midfield. The only half chance falling to Johnny Bravo following some great work down the wing by Rhys Alun.

It took 12 minutes for the first real opportunity to fall, when Shaun Cavanagh produced a delicious ball over the defence for Johnny Bravo to run onto – he beat the keeper to the ball, lifting it over him, but unfortunately for the Traeth faithful, it also cleared the bar. Around 10 minutes later, he was also to be denied by the Felinheli keeper in a one on one situation.

From the resulting corner however, Jack Rimmer rose higher than anyone to bury his header in the back of the net & give Port a deserved lead. Felinheli did look threatening on the counter attack & were showing some good passing patterns, however they never really created any chances in the 1st half, thanks to some superb defending by Ryan Williams & Gruff Elis at the heart of the Port defence.

Port were to double the lead in the final 10 minutes of the first half, after a great crossfield ball was taken down & controlled by Rhys Alun, his neat one-two with Cai Jones led to a clear path through on goal for him & finished expertly in the right hand corner of the net. It could’ve been 3 before HT, once again through good play by Cai Jones, placing the ball on a plate for Johnny Bravo, who had the goal at his mercy, but he lost his footing at the worst time & the chance was lost. Much like the opening home game, the home side were looking to make a fast start & were given the opportunity to do so, when a free kick, central to the goal, about 20 yards out. Shaun Cavanagh stepped up, but his low effort was no issue for the wall, which did its job with no worry in all honesty.

It took 51 minutes for the visitors to trouble the home goal, following a good driving run by full back, Rhodri Dafydd, the ball was played through & the attacker struck at goal, but it was never going to trouble Josh Cooke in the Port goal as it hit the side netting.

Johnny Bravo showcased his great ability to hold up the ball, as all good centre forwards do, whilst also showing his abilities to beat his man several times as well – but, the final pass was often lacking in the 2nd half & when presented with another one on one against the keeper, he was to be foiled again! Only this time, the rebound would fall to Rhys Alun with the goal glaring in front of him….but his strike was to prove more of a danger to those fans who’d parked directly behind the goal in the car park!

Following a raft of substitutions & injury stoppages, the final 20 minutes were to pass without too much excitement – until in stoppage time, the crowd were unlucky not to see a truly wonderful goal, as a great Port counter attack sparked a run forward by Jack Gibney, who’s cross was blocked at the first attempt, but his 2nd attempt found Caio Evans in the box & his volley looked for the back of the net, only to be denied by the crossbar. Port were deserved winners in the end, as the game finished 2 – 0.

Next up for Port is an away trip to newly promoted Bethesda Atheltic & a first trip to Parc Meurig for a 2:30pm kick off on Saturday afternoon.
